I want it! But, at the same time, Five Hundred Dollars is a heck of a lot of money for a 20GB iPod. But still, it’s black… and U2… and $50 off their electronic boxed set… and it’s only 75 bucks more than a vanilla 20GB iPod.

*dramatic sigh*
Oh well, “Apple today also announced it will launch the iTunes Music Store in Canada in November.” That’s something to look forward to, at least.

Nasty, nasty stuff. Opeed up the site today and found that two comments had been added to every entry linking to a couple of online poker places.
Thus, I resigned myself to the fact that this site is no longer safe from the comment spammers and decided to set up the proper protections. The procedure went as follows:
- Visit WordPress site, find the WP-Blacklist plugin
- Visit Fahim Farook’s site, download latest version
- Install plugin, populating blacklist with Jay Allen’s MT-Blacklist/Comment Spam Clearinghouse
- Use the plugin’s search feature to find all the comments that should have been prevented, select all, delete.
All in all, it took about five minutes, tops. I like WordPress and the WP community.

It’s a decent movie. Cheesy, low-grade horror, but at least it’s not another boring slasher flick. I mean, it draws a little on Egyptian mythology and has a very cheap, ’80s soundtrack. The high point of the movie is definitely Michael Wyle. Unfortunately, his career seems to have pretty much peaked with film debut in Fast Times at Ridgemont High 5 years earlier. That said, this is still a movie that, despite being directed by ‘Alan Smithee‘, I like. It’s something I can pretty much pop in and let run. It won’t distract me, it won’t offend me, and if I happen to watch a bit, it will manage to entertain me. And, well, you really can’t ask for more than that.
Well, maybe a knock-off Kolchak, and guess what, Appointment has one of those, too. Granted, Douglas Rowe is no Darren McGavin, but he gives the role a good run for its money.
(IMDB link.)
I should find it on DVD. Because I could really use a better copy of it than the ex-rental VHS tape I have now. Especially since life seems to be throwing me a high point strongly contrasted against a serious low point at the moment. It’s nice having something inoffensive to sit in between.

Did you see it? You should! Stewart was amazing. Now, when I have access to cable, I watch both The Daily Show and Crossfire. I’ve watched them both for years and have enjoyed them immensely. So, no matter how it went, I was going to enjoy it: real news and views? great; 24 minutes of jokes? sweet; a complete train wreck? who doesn’t love a train wreck? But, I would never have expected what happened.
Basically Stewart went after Crossfire for not being the show it could be. And, he’s right, Crossfire could easily improve.. a lot. However, rather than defending what they do, Tucker Carlson attacked Stewart for not running a hard-hitting news show. Stewart responded by pointing out he’s on Comedy Central. I must admit, I have never really liked Carlson as an on screen personality and this episode did nothing to endear him to me. I much preferred Pat Buchanan and Mary Matalin.
It’s a fun episode, with Carlson constantly trying to move it over to a more relaxed, comediesque atmosphere and Stewart refusing to (and I quote), “be your monkey.” And that’s what it takes, it seems, to get an episode of Crossfire onto the front page of Slashdot.
Everyone should watch this. If you haven’t yet, get the torrent and download the show now.

This site (and a few others) are hosted off of a Power Macintosh G3 in my closet. Unfortunately, my G3 has become afflicted with a problem common to those of the early production runs. The Voltage Regulator is getting flaky. This means that once in a while the voltage levels in the machine fluctuate, casing a crash. in addition, boot-up is either delayed or prevented due to the required voltage levels not being present.
For the moment, I has reduced the problem by stepping back the processor speed, rather than the 333MHz G3 with a 1:1, 1MB cache that usually powers this beast, there’s a 233MHz G3 with a 2:1, 512KB cache in there right now. Hopefully this will be enough to buy some stability.
The fix for this problem is simple; replace the Voltage regulator. The affected regulators are well known and fairly easy to identify, so getting one without this problem would be relatively simple. However, my preferred solution is to move the sites onto a different machine, preferably a PowerBook G3 or Blue & White Power Mac G3. However, that solution is not likely to happen barring extremely fortuitous circumstance, so I think I shall be searching eBay fora good deal on a voltage regulator fairly soon.
