Macworld 2008 Predictions
New Mac Pro. It’s been almost a year and a half since they were introduced, updates are overdue.
Wrong. The new Pros were announced ahead of Macworld. Unfortunately, moral victories don’t count as hits.
At least one new laptop. Maybe it’s the mythical ‘MacBook thin’, maybe it’s just a rev to an existing line. Either way, something will happen with the laptops.
Correct. Weaselly victories, however, do count as hits.
Mac mini update. I doubt there will be any significant change to the design, but I do expect a speed bump. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was just a quiet update with no fanfare or mention in the keynote.
Wrong. Pity poor mini, for he is neglected and all but forgotten.
New iTunes Store stuff. A significant change to the video sales model. Could be a rental scheme, could be a large group of media companies signing up.
Correct. Lucky for me that was an inclusive OR.
Apple TV update. Probably tied in with the iTunes Store update.
Correct.
No iMac update. Maybe a quiet speedbump, but nothing significant, and certainly nothing in the keynote.
Correct.
No iPhone update. The iPhone SDK was announced for a February release, the new iPhones will be announced alongside.
Wrong. While there were no new models, there was a software update and the iPhones got trotted out on stage.
No iPod updates. The current line is less than 6 months old, and new iPods would call attention to the iPhone’s absence.
- Wrong. Just a software update to the touches, but I’m still wrong.
Final tally: 4/8 = 50% (same as last year). I have the prognostication ability of a coin flip.
